Five Foods That Increase Motivation

Have you established your goals for the New Year? For many, exercise is at the top of the list. While exercise is great, changing your eating habits will help you knock your health goals out of the park! At Farrell’s, we teach a balanced, wholefood approach to nutrition that focuses on the right foods and portions at the right time. So while you’re working on your new goals, don’t forget nutrition and incorporate these nutrient-rich foods in your meal plans to boost motivation!

1. High-Fiber: Whole grains, vegetables, nuts, seeds, and beans help stabilize blood sugar levels and sustain energy levels.

2. Antioxidants: Foods with high amounts of vitamin A, C and E are anti-inflammatory and help blood flow to the brain ensuring optimal function. Fruits– especially berries and tomatoes–and vegetables like cauliflower, broccoli and cabbage are a few to try out.

3. Omega-3: Foods high in omega 3s such as fish, seeds, and nuts have been shown to improve cognitive function, thus helping with motivation and concentration. Not only are they anti-inflammatory, they also help the brain process information.

4. Dopamine: Sunflower seeds, bananas, and caffeine have dopamine, a chemical that increases motivation and concentration. Green tea and dark chocolate contain polyphenols, which decrease cell death and help brain function. Beware of too much caffeine intake though as it could have the opposite effect!

5. Vitamins B6 and B12: Foods rich in B6 include eggs, whole grains, fish, meat, and nuts. Foods rich in B12 include dairy, seaweed, eggs, and fish. These vitamins help cognitive brain function, protect the brain from nerve damage, and increase memory and concentration.

At Farrell’s, we believe in making nutrition simple and easy to follow. To make our nutrition even easier, we now offer our Farrell’s Simple Meal Plans to all new 10-Week Challenge participants! Each new member receives 10 weeks of meal plans with a corresponding grocery list for each week.
